“SMART TATTOO”
Process:
When I first started designing my smart tattoo, I knew that I wanted the product to be a problem solver, not a convenience enhancer. Taking inspiration from my own experiences and those around me, I first came up with a smart ring designed to detect date-rape drugs in a drink. That got me thinking about other dangers women face today, and given the current state of abortion rights, I wondered what role wearable technology could play in supporting their rights. I landed on a secure menstrual cycle tracker that protects your data, keeping it entirely private and not accessible by third party organizations. The product is targeted towards all women – those trying to conceive, those trying to avoid conceiving, those hoping to avoid a surprise period or those just interested in monitoring their cycle and learning about their hormones. For my prototype, I taped two smaller pieces of paper, one being the temperature sensor and another being a device to measure emotional arousal data through galvanic skin response, to the larger cutout representing the actual “tattoo.”
